Samsung is still in the process of rolling out its One UI 7 operating system based on Android 15, but reports suggest that the company is already preparing for the early launch of its successor. Allegedly, One UI 8, which will be built on Android 16, will come pre-installed on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable devices, which are expected to be unveiled later this year. SamMobile, citing insider information, reveals that these next-generation foldable smartphones—the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7—are likely to be introduced with One UI 8 right out of the box. This indicates that the devices may launch with Android 16 firmware. Speculations suggest that Samsung's new foldable models could make their debut in July, aligning with the release schedules of previous models.
It is noteworthy that Samsung has reportedly begun testing its forthcoming operating system. An insider recently discovered an internal test version of One UI 8 on the company's servers, marked as "newfound test firmware." This version reportedly has the build number S938BXXU1BYC1/S938BOXM1BYC1/S938BXXU1BYC1, associated with the flagship Galaxy S25 series. This development hints that Samsung might be advancing the creation of its next OS around two months earlier than its typical schedule. As for the release timeline, a Google representative has confirmed that the upgrade to Android 15 is scheduled to be available in June 2025. It is expected that the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) will receive it on June 3, after which original equipment manufacturers like Samsung can begin customizing their versions for different devices and prepare for the subsequent launch.
Currently, there are no official details regarding the features or the rollout of One UI 8 from Samsung. Additional information is anticipated in the months leading up to the release of the Android 16-based operating system.
