A Mechanicsville man who died the day after the vehicle he was driving crashed Friday night along all Faith Church Road was remembered this week as a beloved father and boiler-work foreman.
Tommy Lee Cook Jr aged 50 years, was traveling south on the northern St. Mary’s roadway at about 8 p.m. Friday in a 2011 GMC Terrain, police report, when the vehicle went off the pavement at a curve, striking an embankment before it veered back onto the road and overturned several times before landing on its passenger side. First responders extricated Cook and took him to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, according to the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office, before a helicopter crew flew him to a regional trauma center, where he died Saturday afternoon.
“He was just an absolutely true leader of our company,” Thomas Fannon, the owner of T.J. Fannon & Sons in Alexandria, Va., said Monday afternoon. Cook, a master boiler mechanic and master air-conditioning mechanic, had worked for the business for more than 20 years.
“He was loved by everyone,” Fannon said, describing Cook as having “a glorious personality. Tommy could really do it all. It’s a terrible loss for us.”
Cook’s children include two daughters and a son, Shawn Cook, and he works for the company where his father also recruited more talent for the workforce.
“Tommy brought other friends in, they all know how to work hard,” Fannon said.

A sheriff’s office press release states that the preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision, and the agency has requested that anyone who may have witnessed the collision contact Cpl.
