A suspicious device was left behind a bank after a robbery was fake. Officers were called just after 3:30 PM on Monday to Hamilton Bank in the 8100 block of Jumpers Hole Road, where they said that a robber left behind what appeared to be a pipe bomb.
According to Anne Arundel County police Lt. Ryan Frashure, tellers inside the bank said that they were robbed and a white male in his 50s fled the area in a vehicle. While the officers saw a suspicious object that the bomb squad later determined was fake.
Frashure said, "While officers were there, they noticed a package or some type of device that was left on the counter, so that device was determined to look like a pipe bomb. It was described to me as a metal pipe with wires taped to it and a lock attached to it, so obviously, we had to take that situation very serious," .
Crews began to clear the scene shortly before 6 PM. No injuries were reported.
Frashure said, "We think that it had very minimal impact, some of the businesses had to be closed for a little bit but I think everyone was very understanding," .
The bank robbery has been under investigation. Frashure said, "(Investigators) will look at surveillance video, try to get some pictures and try to obtain some more suspect information so we can try to locate and identify the suspect that's responsible" .
